Chat History & Conversation Memory
How AskBiz stores and manages your chat history. Accessing past conversations, searching history, exporting conversations, conversation context between sessions, and privacy controls.
Within-Session Memory
Within a single conversation session, AskBiz remembers full context. You can ask follow-up questions without re-explaining:
- *'Which product has the highest return rate?'* โ AskBiz answers
- *'Now show me only the ones launched in the last 6 months'* โ AskBiz narrows the previous answer
- *'What should I do about the top one?'* โ AskBiz gives advice on the specific product
- *'Compare that to last quarter'* โ AskBiz knows which product you're referring to
This chained context works for as long as your session remains active. A session is considered active until you close the tab, log out, or there is more than 60 minutes of inactivity. Starting a new conversation from the chat panel begins a fresh session with no inherited context.
Between-Session History
Past conversations are stored and accessible from the chat panel (click the clock/history icon in the sidebar). You can:
- Browse previous conversations by date, newest first
- Search conversations by keyword โ AskBiz searches both your questions and the AI responses
- Resume a previous conversation โ when you re-open a past conversation, AskBiz reloads the context so you can ask follow-ups without re-explaining the background
- Export a conversation as PDF or copy as plain text (see Exporting below)
- Star important conversations to pin them to the top of your history
History is retained for 12 months on Growth and Business plans, and 30 days on Free. After the retention period, conversations are automatically and permanently deleted.
Searching Your Conversation History
The history search (history icon โ search bar) searches across:
- Your exact questions and prompts
- AskBiz's responses including any data values it referenced
- Conversation titles (auto-generated from the first question)
Search tips:
- Search for a metric (e.g. 'refund rate') to find all conversations where that was discussed
- Search for a product name or SKU to find analysis you've previously run on it
- Search for a date (e.g. 'March') to find conversations from that period
- Search is case-insensitive and matches partial words
Search results show the conversation title, date, and a snippet of the matching content. Click any result to open the full conversation.
Exporting Conversations
You can export any conversation for your records, to share with a team member, or to include in a business review:
Export as PDF:
1. Open the conversation
2. Click the three-dot menu (โฏ) in the top right
3. Select Export as PDF
4. The PDF includes the full conversation thread, timestamps, and any data tables or charts
Copy as text:
1. Open the conversation
2. Click Copy conversation โ this copies the full text to your clipboard in a readable format
3. Paste into any document, email, or note-taking tool
Share a link: On Business plan, you can generate a shareable link to a specific conversation. Anyone with the link can view (but not edit or continue) the conversation โ useful for sharing analysis with stakeholders who aren't AskBiz users.
Conversation Titles and Organisation
AskBiz automatically generates a title for each conversation based on the first question you ask. For example, if you ask *'What were my top products in March?'*, the conversation is titled *'Top products โ March analysis'*.
You can rename any conversation:
1. Hover over the conversation in the history panel
2. Click the pencil icon
3. Type your preferred title
4. Press Enter to save
This is useful for keeping important analyses easy to find โ for example, renaming *'Q4 planning session'* or *'Germany market research'*.
Clearing Your History
To clear a specific conversation: open it โ click the three-dot menu โ Delete conversation. The conversation is immediately and permanently deleted.
To clear all history: Account Settings โ Privacy โ Clear Chat History โ Confirm. This deletes every conversation across all time. It cannot be undone.
To clear history older than a date: this feature is available in Account Settings โ Privacy โ Manage History. Select a cutoff date; all conversations before that date are deleted.
Note: Deleting conversations from your history does not affect your Business Pulse score, connected data, or any saved tool results โ only the chat thread itself is removed.
Privacy and Team Access
Each team member's conversation history is completely private โ visible only to that individual, even on Business plan where multiple people share an account. Admins do not have access to read other team members' chat histories.
The only exception: if a team member uses the Share Link feature (Business plan) to share a specific conversation, anyone with that link can view it. Links can be revoked at any time from the conversation's three-dot menu โ Manage shared link.
Conversations are stored in a logically isolated database partition per user account. AskBiz support staff cannot access your conversation history without your explicit permission (granted per-session for troubleshooting purposes).
Storage Limits
There is no limit on the number of conversations you can have or store within your retention period. Very long conversations (hundreds of messages) may load slightly slower but are fully supported.
Data retention by plan:
- Free: 30 days
- Growth: 12 months
- Business: 24 months
