Setting Up Custom Alert Rules
Create rules to trigger alerts when your data crosses thresholds or shows unusual patterns.
What alerts can do#
Alerts monitor your data continuously and notify you when something needs attention. You define the condition โ for example margin drops below 25%, daily revenue exceeds KES 500,000, or refund rate goes above 5%. When the condition is met, AskBiz sends a notification. This replaces the need to manually check dashboards throughout the day.
Creating an alert rule#
Go to Alerts > New Rule. Select the metric to monitor โ revenue, margin, stock level, refund rate, order count, or any custom metric from your data. Choose the condition โ above, below, changes by more than, or anomaly detected. Set the threshold value. Choose the notification channel โ dashboard, email, WhatsApp, or push notification. Save the rule and it starts monitoring immediately.
Alert frequency and cooldown#
Set how often the alert can fire. The default cooldown is 24 hours โ if the condition is still met the next day, the alert fires again. For urgent alerts, set the cooldown to 1 hour. For non-urgent trends, set it to weekly. This prevents alert fatigue while ensuring you do not miss persistent problems.
Managing active alerts#
The Alerts Dashboard shows all active rules, their current status (normal, triggered, snoozed), and a history of past triggers. Snooze an alert if you are aware of the issue and working on it. Delete rules that are no longer relevant. Review alert history monthly โ if an alert never fires, the threshold might be too lenient. If it fires constantly, it might be too strict.
