Connecting Instagram to AskBiz#

AskBiz connects to Instagram via the Meta Graph API. Requirements:

1. An Instagram Business or Creator account (personal accounts don't support API access)

2. The Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Page in Meta Business Suite

3. You need admin access to the Facebook Page

To connect: Settings → Integrations → Instagram → Connect. You'll be redirected to Meta to authorise. The connection pulls 90 days of historical data on first sync.

Key Instagram metrics in AskBiz#

Profile-level metrics (Social → Instagram → Overview):

  • Follower count and net change
  • Monthly profile reach
  • Profile visits
  • Website clicks from bio

Post-level metrics (Social → Instagram → Posts):

  • Reach and impressions per post
  • Engagement rate (by followers and by reach)
  • Saves and shares (highest-intent actions)
  • Comments

Reel metrics (Social → Instagram → Reels):

  • Views (separate from reach — one person can generate multiple views)
  • Plays and play rate
  • Shares (primary viral mechanism for Reels)

Story metrics (Social → Instagram → Stories):

  • Views, exits (swipe-away rate), and replies

Follower growth analysis#

In Social → Instagram → Followers, AskBiz shows:

  • Daily follower change
  • Follower growth attributed to specific posts (posts that drove spike in follows)
  • Follower demographics: age, gender, top locations

A healthy Instagram account grows followers steadily through consistent content. Spikes followed by large unfollows indicate you gained followers via a tactic (giveaway, viral reel) that attracted low-quality followers.

Benchmark: 2–5% monthly follower growth through organic content is good for a business account.

Reels vs static post performance comparison#

AskBiz lets you compare content types side by side. Go to Social → Instagram → Posts → Filter by Type to compare average metrics for:

  • Static images
  • Carousel posts
  • Reels
  • Stories

For most accounts, Reels have the highest reach (due to Instagram's algorithmic distribution to non-followers) but lower engagement rate by reach compared to carousels. Use Reels for discovery; use carousels for depth and saves.

Story performance and swipe-away rate#

Stories have a different engagement model from posts:

  • Views: unique accounts who watched at least 1 frame
  • Exit rate (swipe-away rate): percentage of viewers who swiped away before the story ended. Benchmark: < 30% per story slide
  • Forward taps: skipping ahead (mild disengagement signal)
  • Back taps: rewatching (strong engagement signal)
  • Link sticker clicks: conversion action — tracks traffic to linked URLs

For sequences of story slides, a drop in views from slide 1 to slide 5 is normal (20–40% drop). A sudden large drop at a specific slide indicates that slide is losing viewers — test different content there.
