Migrating from Another Analytics Platform

Moving to AskBiz from another BI tool? Here is how to migrate your data, recreate your key reports, and make the transition without losing continuity.

What to migrate and what to leave behind

When migrating to AskBiz, you do not need to migrate everything from your previous tool. Focus on: Historical data (sales, orders, customer history — import via CSV or connect your existing data sources), KPI definitions (identify which metrics you tracked before and find the equivalent in AskBiz — most standard metrics are available by default), and Report structures (which metrics go on which dashboards, what comparison periods you use). Do not attempt to migrate: raw database exports (AskBiz works from structured business data, not raw tables), one-off analysis reports (recreate these as needed, not all at once), or reports nobody was actually using (migration is a good time to rationalise).

Connecting your existing data sources

If your previous analytics platform was pulling from Shopify, Xero, or other platforms that AskBiz natively supports, the connection process is identical to a new setup — just connect each source in Settings → Data Sources. AskBiz will pull the same historical data. The only difference is that you may already have processed and enriched data in your previous tool (custom segments, annotations, targets) that you will need to recreate in AskBiz manually.

Running both platforms in parallel

We recommend running AskBiz alongside your existing tool for 4–8 weeks before fully switching over. This gives you time to: verify that key metrics match between platforms (differences are normal and usually explainable — document them), rebuild any reports or alerts that your team relies on, train your team on the new interface, and build confidence in the data before committing. After the parallel period, cancel your old tool's subscription — keeping both running wastes money and creates confusion about which dashboard is the source of truth.

Recreating alerts and scheduled reports

Most analytics tools include alerting and scheduling features. To recreate these in AskBiz: for metric threshold alerts, go to Intelligence → Alerts → Add Alert; for anomaly alerts, these are automatic in AskBiz — no configuration needed; for scheduled reports, go to Settings → Reports → New Scheduled Report. If your team received daily or weekly digest emails from your previous tool, set up an equivalent AskBiz scheduled report first — this is often the first thing teams miss when switching.
