Create, sell, redeem, and track gift cards in your POS.

Enabling gift cards#

Go to POS > Gift Cards and toggle the feature on. Choose your denominations — for example KES 500, KES 1000, KES 2500 — or allow custom amounts. Gift cards generate a unique code that can be printed on a physical card, sent via WhatsApp, or emailed. Each card tracks its balance, purchase date, purchaser, and redemption history.

Selling a gift card#

During checkout, add a gift card as a line item. Select the denomination or enter a custom amount. Process payment as normal. The system generates the gift card code and sends it to the recipient if a phone number or email is provided. Physical cards can be printed at the counter with the code and balance displayed.

Redeeming a gift card#

When a customer wants to pay with a gift card, tap Gift Card on the payment screen and enter or scan the code. The system shows the remaining balance. If the purchase exceeds the balance, the customer pays the difference with another method. If the balance exceeds the purchase, the remaining amount stays on the card for future use.

Tracking and reporting#

The Gift Card Dashboard shows total cards sold, total value outstanding (your liability), redemption rate, and average time to first redemption. Unredeemed cards represent a liability on your books. AskBiz tracks expiry if you set one — common in some jurisdictions. Cards approaching expiry can trigger a reminder to the holder.
