Processing a Sale Step by Step

Walk through the full AskBiz POS sale flow — add items, apply discounts, choose a payment method, and complete the transaction with a receipt.

Starting a new sale#

Open /pos from the sidebar. You will see the sale screen with a product grid on the left and the current basket on the right (on mobile, swipe between them). Each sale starts with an empty basket.

Add products by:

  • Tapping a product tile from the grid
  • Scanning a barcode with the camera or an external scanner
  • Searching by name using the search bar at the top

Each tap adds one unit. To add multiple, tap the quantity number in the basket and type the amount, or use the + and - buttons.

Applying discounts#

Tap the Discount button at the bottom of the basket to apply a discount. You can choose:

  • Percentage discount — e.g. 10% off the entire basket
  • Fixed amount — e.g. £5 off
  • Per-item discount — tap a specific line item, then tap Discount to reduce just that product

Cashier-role staff can apply discounts up to the limit set by the account owner (default: 15%). Supervisors and Managers can apply any discount. All discounts are logged and visible in reporting.

Choosing a payment method and completing the sale#

When the basket is ready, tap Charge. You will see the total (including VAT if configured) and a list of payment methods:

  • Cash — enter the amount tendered and AskBiz calculates the change
  • Card — record that the customer paid by card (AskBiz POS does not process card payments directly — use your existing card terminal)
  • Other — for bank transfers, vouchers, or store credit

Tap the payment method, confirm, and the sale is complete. The basket clears and is ready for the next customer.

Receipts and post-sale options#

After completing a sale, you can:

  • Send a WhatsApp receipt — if configured (see the WhatsApp Receipts Setup article), enter the customer's number and tap Send
  • Print a receipt — if you have a connected receipt printer
  • Email a receipt — enter the customer's email address
  • No receipt — tap Done to skip

All completed sales are visible in /pos/transactions and are immediately reflected in your AskBiz dashboards and AI chat.
